artist / blake eerie

Blake Eerie is an MC hailing from Detroit, MI.
He's a good guy. He hosts beat battles and hip hop conferences. He also likes to drink and smoke, so you'd totally be cool with him.

Interviewed by Hugh Whitaker

First of all, why are you such an a-hole?

(laughs) Thank you! I don't know...really?? I'm an a-hole cause that's the way the world molded me, and if I wasn't an a-hole, there would be no one else to shit on!

Why do you have that big scar on your arm?

I sucker punched a rhino and my arm shattered.

I'm not sure if I believe that.

That's what I'm tellin' people!

So what makes you want to rap in this thing we call the rap game?

I was blessed with not too many other choices in life.

Favorite cereal?

Cocoa wheat. Cocoa wheat!...(sings) cocoa wheat cereal can't be beat! It's the creamy hot cereal with the cocoa treat! ….I got a lifetime supply in my basement.

Blake, you really rap from the heart. What's the most personal song you've ever recorded and what does it mean to you?

“Sincere (my apologies)” (from Skyzone) That song was about every women I ever disrespected. I'm sorry, bitches.

What's your favorite song of all time?

Umm....ahhh...what's that song by L.T.D....nah....it aint L.T.D...it goes (sings) “She was lost and turrrrned ouuuut!”

Oh...yeah, “Lost and Turned Out.” (by the Whispers).

How about your favorite guilty pleasure song that you'd be embarrassed for liking?

“Take on me” by A-Ha.

That's Leaf's favorite non-guilty pleasure song...he has no guilt about liking that song. That's his all-time favorite song.

Yeah, Leaf don't give a fuck.

THONG PUPPETZ
(appears on Skyzone, produced by Hugh Whitaker)
Hugh-
I don't like that beat. I guess I was really feelin that “Kryptonite” song when I made it… When you said “i gave her a mouthful of my toddlers”-- I dunno...it was funny… I kept playing it over and over. Blake- Yeah, it was better than giving her a mouthful of full grown babies. Hugh- the name “thong puppetz” still freaks me out…makes me think of Miss Piggy

WARM WEATHER, COLD HEARTS
appears on the Lateef ep (unreleased), produced by Hugh Whitaker
Blake- I remember I kept fucking up the verse cause I never rapped that fast in my life. It was a breaking-out experience for me though, as far as changing my style. Hugh- I think those bongos are from this Incredible Bongo Band 45 I found at May’s records. There was also some poetry by Yusef Lateef in there originally, but we had to take it out.

SUZUKI RAPS
appears on Skyzone, produced by dak
Blake- I was very high and weirded out and I had the munchies AND I was wishing I had a motorcycle.
dak- We was definitely both pretty blowed that night. If im thinking of the right song, it’s actually got a skip in it from the yusef lateef record I sampled …it’s actually really annoying, it skips throughout the whole song. >>DOWNLOAD
