Interviewed by Blake Eerie
What made you want to start making music and when did you start?
I remember exactly when I wanted to start making beats. It was when that Sunz of Man cassette single with “Soldiers of Darkness” and “5 Arch Angels” came out. The beats on there scared me and I wanted to make beats like that. So I borrowed my girlfriend’s drum machine when she went back to France, but it just sat under my bed for the summer and I never learned how to use it.
Who is your favorite artist and why?
Donny Hathaway. You could hear the pain in his voice when he sang, even during the happy songs. I like Kool Keith too. He might be my favorite rapper.
What was running through your mind when you gathered this eccentric, scatter-brained group of artists together?
Well, it wasn’t really me that did it…we were already a group of like-minded individuals—it was just a matter of saying it.
Tell me a little about the Butter Made record label from your perspective.
We’re just a record label with no money. It’s basically a name for our music to come out under.
What do you think was your favorite track to make and why?
I have no idea man…I really don’t know…Maybe “Eleanor” because that was the first track that we recorded for Stoopz n’ Breeze. I remember being unsure if we could pull off the whole Miami crime-saga storyline, but Leaf went in there and did exactly what I imagined it to be.
Do you prefer Korean bitches or Scottish bitches?
(laughs) Both.
Is Bob Stoopz in any way related to you? You two look awfully similar.
(laughs) Yeah, we could be cousins…he has blonde hair though.
Do you smoke or drink?
Not really anymore and yes, a lot.
